The Borgia family (originally Borja in Spanish) was one of the most powerful and controversial families of the
Italian Renaissance. Originating from Spain, they rose to prominence in Italy during the 15th century, reaching
their peak with the election of Alfonso Borgia as Pope Callixtus III (1455–1458) and, more famously, Rodrigo
Borgia, who became Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503).
Under Alexander VI, the Borgias became well-known
(and feared) for their political ambition, strategic marriages, and use of ecclesiastical power to strengthen
their influence. His children, Cesare Borgia and Lucrezia Borgia, played key roles in Italy’s political
landscape, forming alliances and commanding armies in a time of shifting power.
The tradition of art, architecture, and hospitality runs deep within the Borgia lineage. From frescoed salons in
Renaissance palaces to the timeless charm of Italian villas, the family has always cherished spaces that tell
stories.
Each detail within our properties — from antique furnishings to architectural elements —

Florence, every apartment and room has a story — and a soul.
